Thread: Elite Professions After Marksman
Being the rifleman board, I'll venture to say Rifles are the best. ![]()
Rifles attack the Mind pool and while generally slower than pistols and carbines, with Take Cover (and ideally mask scent vs. animal foes) I can get three shots in easy. Each one does ~400 - 600 pts or so. Most white-cons go down in three or four shots.
Now, the down side, of course, is that if I -miss- any of those shots, I've got an angry monster rushing me, and in melee range I get like -50 to hit... when I first started, I figured, "Oh, now I can use the Point Blank Shot skill!".... which, of course, doesnt' affect mind pool, so it was attacking a basically full-health monster that was nearly out of Mind pool. In other words, it did no good.
(sidenote: I can never remember where I got PointBlank Shot - it may be novice marksman, ranged support or, I think I have Pistol-1)
I have another character (on another server obviously) that uses a pistol... so far it's been okay. I miss the big damage numbers, but it's faster. /shrug
Mind shot them and head shot till they charge you. then kneel, and warning shot them till they run off. Then just wait for the dot to kill them or fire off another head shot. Warning shot works wonderfully on all but the most ill-tempered critters.
I'm almost positive point blank shot is a pistol skill. Doesn't make sense to have that for rifles. what use would it be?
I've said it before, and I'll probably say it again, try switching to a CDEF rifle for close work. KneelingI get a +10 modifier. Sure it's less power then your main rifle, but hopefully you are just finishing off a few mind points anyway. The top ones on the market right now (from what I've seen) are about 30-61dmg, 3.5 delay.
The mind affecting traps are good too, although you will need to take that one last shot, since you can't kill with traps. If I'm throwing several traps and I'm in melee range, I also unequip my rifle to reduce my damage taken.
lvl your trapping up, 1 of the lvl 3 traps is a snare so if you miss, popl them with the trap and you're away safely
also, the lvl 4 trap stops movement completely
just some thoughts i started on trapping last night after already becoming a rifleman, and said "**edit** if i had these a week ago my rilfeman road would have been a lot smoother.
look into them, i got lvl 3 trapping in 1 night + there are traps that dmg mind pool
