Thread: Honestly, is Cone Effect more of a nuisance or an upgrade
I would rather pick and choose my targets, picking them off one by one. The cone effect has a very limited use. Who wants to deal with a whole pack of animals or imperials coming at them?
Considering how often you can use the "Cone Effect" to your advantage, it should be an option to toggle on or off when firing.
For example
Legshot3 should be a clear upgrade in damage to Legshot2,WITH the option of toggling the Cone Effect on or off.
Just my 2 cents ![]()
the cone shots are great when you're having to solo a group of aggressors who are all going to be chasing you at once whether or not you try to attack just one at a time... like if you're trying to take out a lair or some such thing. ...you might start to get overwhelmed so you pop a few ActionShot2's to slow the group down to give you a chance to regroup, get a better position, or just try to get the hell away.
Cone shots rip stuff up IF you personally don't have the agro.
Ex: I attack a Flit lair on Lok. I shoot once, stop firing, let the 8 flits spawn. I set my pet onto the largest, and since they are social attackers, they all attack my cat. I wait a few seconds, make certain they are all paying attention to the cat, then I start ripping off areacone attacks.
It's buggy because many of them don't get hit, and I dont see a miss report, or I see dmg reports over there head but their ham bars don't report a change. It does work on them eventually tho. I think there might be a numerical limit on how many mobs it can hit at once, like 4 or 5 or something.
BUT on another occassion I went to Mos Entha, and there is a spot where 4 storm troopers are standing with 2 enlisted troopers in a conversational cluster. I set my cat on them, they immediately respond and keep the cat pinned down. I open up with the cone effect, rapidly kill the 2 unarmored troopers and get all of the ST's to half health or lower on both H and A bars. Then I action shot 2 and leg shot the rest of the troopers down.
6 imp npcs < 1 carb/ch. I had to run at the end and pop a few stims cause my pet got incapped by the 2 surivingST's, but between the 1k bleed from actionshot2 and my few legshots they went down faster than a bottle of nyquil at an AA meeting.
So far I'm having fun with the carbineer class. Just wish the ham costs were lower and had some more defensive buffs.
Btw i'm 3 1 0 2 in carbineer.

I thought carbines were basically the "machine guns" of the game... Aren't they?
Novice Carbineer/Novice Squad Leader/All around good guy!
I like them. They give carbineer some uniqueness. They are great in groups and priceless when things start getting out of hand. It's also a blast to 1 hit kill and entire lair of animals. ![]()
They could also be great in PvP... imagine you are a covert staning behind a group of enemy faction members, one of them fires on an overt from your faction, BAM chargeshot 2 the whole group hits the deck. lol
I agree, I'd rather have a single-shot upgrade than all these Cone ones..
A few cone shots would be nice... but half of the Carbineer shots? A bit much...
They just lend themselves to abusing huge packs of slow critters and farming XP.
Just the other day I got myself and hunting party killed on Dantooine when I used actionshot2. I thought the mob we were fighting was the only one nearby, so I use actionshot2 for more bleed damage. I didn't notice one mob off to the side and barely in range. It attacked and killed us both.
taking this a bit further, i think this is one of the core problems with advancement int he carbineer tree, whats the point really? theres not much motivation to work up the tree to get specials that are less useful than the 1st level ones. a couple are nice, but area attacks are not the only thng a master carbineer is intrested in. BH specials wouldnt look so nice if the ones in carbineer prof were decent.
I believe, at this time, stopping at 2/0/1/2 makes you 80% or 90% as effective as Master.
You get WildShot, ScatterShot, BurstShot, FullAutoArea and ChargeShot.
Most of the upgrades to those are worthless Cone effects, or marginal damage increases. Legshot3 is identical to Legshot2, CrippleShot isn't worth the 3 skill boxes to get, most of the skill mods are marginally uesful, and there's nothing worthwhile at Master.
Personally I'm headed towards 0/0/4/2, then 2/0/4/2, then 2/3/4/2, but I really don't what incentive I would have to move beyond that.
