Thread: Damage or Speed...Help me pick my Carbine

I am 4 boxes from Master Carbineer.
I have 2 laser carbines. I bought both of them with base stats of 255 Dmg 4.0 spd. They both sliced different directions.

After slices: 255 Dmg 3.1 Spd, and 300Dmg 4.0 Spd.

I use cripple shot most of the time. Pre Patch it was an easy choice of Speed for PVP, and I usually took the Damage for PVE.

Please tell me which one you think is better and why. Also most of my hnting is done on Dantooine, Endor, and Dathomir, so most of the mobs have 10k + Ham

Thanks for your help.

the 3.1 Speed will give you more dps, after 6 seconds you'll hit twice with it and for the 4 second it will be after 4 seconds then it will just be slightly ahead and after just a few seconds maybe 15 or so, (I'm lazy and its morning I'm not doing the math) it will be giving you more shots and you will outdamage things with it. But hold on to both, because the 4 second one will be good in case the other one breaks or you just feel like you can one shot stuff with it at some point.

I was thinking along the same lines, but with the multiplier, I am getting into the 3k range with the 300, also I am looking at is the Ham costs from the faster gun worse, considering the greater damage of the other one.

he faster you fire the faster your actions Ham goes to the crapper.

DPS has become so much more important after the PvP damage nerf. Before when you could one shot kill someone with a good laser carbine it didn't matter as much but now it's a different story. That being said, you do get modifiers for carbine speed. I can't remember the exact equation (it's on this board somewhere) but what I would do is calculate what your speed modifiers bring you down to and see if you reach the cap. Either way I would calculate your DPS based on your modifiers and the cap you may find that your attack rate is the same with both guns. If this is the case I would say logically it's damage all the way.

Among the maxims on Lord Naoshige's wall there was this one: ''Matters of great concern should be treated lightly.'' Master lttei commented, "Matters of small concern should be treated seriously."

I would say that if you have enough speed mods (say, 65+), go with the bigger damage. At some point the speed difference in guns becomes negligible. When you're hunting, the key for me is whether you can call up actionshot and itfires up immediately. If there's too much of a delay between keying a special and it firing, get a faster gun. Otherwise, go for more damage.

Speed is hardcapped at 1.

Ok.. So how do I calculate my speed mod ?

I have a speed on the gun.

Plus speed mods on my avatar. I am using both BH and Carbineer carbine skills.

Example - Right now mu avatar has +95 carbine speed. I still have more speed boxes to fill in my carbineer tree.

Should I do that ? Or can I save those points?

Thanks again.

+95 speed = 95% faster speed

It pretty much means you are firing at the 1 sec cap.

Sweet !! That means I can utilize those points somewhere else instead of filling that first carbineer tree.

Thanks for the info guys !

wrong.

a +95 to speed means your weapon speed is lowered by 0.95.

so for example if you have a carbine with 2.0 speed you get to 1.05, nearly the speed cap.

.. Wrong again, it's a percentage off the delay, you'd have to have something that shoots with over a 20 second delay to not reach the cap with a +95 mod
