Thread: Carbineer getting owned in PvP
Well, I was out hunting Imperials the other day when someone decided to aide me in my endevour when I didn't want his help. He shot and killed all the Imps plus the camp. During the melee, I stood in front of his targets yelling to him to stop, it was my mission.
His reply "Sorry, I didn't see you". I was standing 20 meters away from him, but that's not the issue.
Well, I was ticked off and offered to duel him. He was a novice BH, I'm a novice Carbineer. I was incapped in 4 shots. He kept knocking me down. I was able to deal him some massive wounds with action shot 2, but not before he drained my mind pool with eye shots.
Anyone else have this problem? How does a carbineer defeat a BH?

Two ways:
1) Camp starports and shuttleports.
2) Look for overt BH's of opposing factionswith "(AFK)" above their heads.

If you aren't at least 2-3 boxes up in most of the carbineer trees, you won't have much of a chance against a BH who's got 0-1-2-0 or better in their skills.
i'm a bh with 0-1-2-0. i have a reasonably good scatter pistol (97-155, 2.3, av1). I can not incap another player with 4 eyeshots without a max damage power up and some luck. typically, it takes 7-8 shots.
typical pvp damage on eyeshot is now around 150pts. so, unless you action pool was 700 pts or so, you shouldn't be incapped in 4 shots.

Blaster, do you need a reminder which HAM pool carbineers use the most for our specials?
this forum desperately needs an edit button...
i mis-typed my post... the eyeshots are mindpool hits, NOT action hits. so, i was speaking of a mindpool of 700 or less...
and yes, i have carbine skills too (which is why i read this board), so i'm absolutely aware of what pool the carb skills drain the fastest.
sheeesh.
I have a 700 mind pool. I was being hit with some sort of knockdown shot. I had mind wounds as well. Everytime I got knocked down, I could not shoot, and when I was able to stand, I got knocked down again.
Now I'm just a novice carbineer, but I figured I would last a little longer than what I did. And yes, it was 4 or 5 shots and I was incapped.
That's what KD does, I'm afraid. If you were 0-0-0-2 in carbineer or better, you could have taken him if you landed your charge shot first. Then you'd just hammer away with legshot 2 and do another charge shot every few seconds to keep him down.
It's very possible to get incapped in relatively few eye shotssinceyou were KD'd, because of the 50% damage increase vs KD'd targets.
For PVP I tend to do this. I have this setup on the 2nd toolbar pane.
My first slot is my Laser Carbine and the second is a very low HAM cost CDEF. 3rd Slot is Fire Knockdown (or charge shot 1), the 4th slow is the macro (below) and the 5th slot is Crippling Shot.
Setup the macro like this:
/ui action toolbarSlot01;
/ui action toolbarSlot02;
/pause 1;
/ui action toolbarSlot00
(The "S" in "Slot" must be capitalized.)
What this macro does is it switches to the CDEF, fires a knockdown shot, and then switches back to the laser carbine. Then I can use crippling shot or so with the laser carbine. The knockdown costs are, of course, a lot less on a good CDEF.
PVP at the moment is basically the same but now you do less damage. It's really whoeverlands the first knockdown. If they have knockdown and/or eye shot and you don't.. there's little to no chance of winning.
And if you really want to cause some pain chargeshot/scattershot1/chargeshot/scattershot1/action shot1
it will wound his alternate pools big time. i find using scatter shot accually hits every pool and when you hit those alternate pools it drains fromt he main pool and wounds them in those pools.
I am excited to see what scatter2 will do.. but it seems anything above thethird boxes are not complete as far as specails.
Most fights are determined by who hits the first knockdown, because then you can keep the enemy knocked down indefinately. You first shot in any fight should be charge shot to get them down to the ground, then action shot them, then proceed to chew away at them and charge shot every few seconds to keep them down. Of the30+ rebels ive killed so far (in regular combat, not duels), only 2 have managed to kill me, both of whom surprised me and ofcourse the first attack was knockdown, so it was a lost fight almost immediately.
