Sorry about that, I was using the forum's spell checker and some how posted without the text. This is the original message:

Hello, I am a marksman (working towards Carbineer) and I'd like to know more about the DH17 snub-nosed carbine. From the few that I've seen in game, they seem to give asizable short-range accuracy bonus. If this is true, it might be a worthwile weapon forhuntingorother times you are fighting a meleer. Has anyone ever tested to see if this makes a difference? I would be very interested ina comparisonand contrast to normal DH17.Currentlyon Talus (Wanderhome), it's hard to get anything over a CDEF carbine, but I am using both a CDEF and a normal DH17.

While I am not yet a carbineer I do have a dh17. I like it much better than the basic cdef carbine. A better rate of fire if nothing else. Plus I hit more so worth it to me even if it is in my own mind. But I do not think it is

Jester,

Well thank you for responding, I also have a DH17 and it does work much better than the CDEF.However, I was really looking for a comparision between the DH17 and the Snub-Nosed DH17. I guess I'm not UBER enough to be taken seriously.

I think the problem is that almost nobodt uses DH17 due to the insane ham cost so they can't comment.

I do have a DH17 snub nose, but I do not use it any more. the HAM on it is to high. I always had to swap to my CDEF for any sort of a shot taking HAM. I eventualy traded for an e-11 so I could throw out a HAM shot in an emergancy without killing myself.

I've a sliced DH-17 subnose. Great weapon !

Damages: 76-181
Speed: 3.6
Wounds: 15.21
Ideal range: 25
Mod range:25/3/-80

and... HAM: 54-56-42

I'm master medic, I can barelly use this...if you're not, forget it.

Snubs are actually a little less accurate than standard carbines, by like 5 points point-blank, and 5-10 (I think?) ideal. However, their ideal range is 25 instead of 35, and so makes a better short-range weapon in my opinion. Basically no carbine is good at point-blank, but the snub gets up near ideal closer in, making the 5m or so you can gain by breaking out of melee and starting to kite a little more accurate.

Aside from that, it's about the same damage, wound chance, HAMs, etc. And the non-CDEF graphic doesn't hurt my opinion about it, either.

IM using a DH17 Snubnose 64-146 3.7. Its ham costs are similar but the damage it does cant compare. Just train up your medical skills with organic chem and make your own stimpacks. I can get 500+ damage from one **edit** out of full auto and that takes down most things that con red to me.in a few shots.

Cubeman, I'm sure your current snub was an upgrade to the standard you used. However, I can confidently say that this is more likely because of the weaponsmith (or improvement in the skill if it's from the same one) than the schematic itself. The DH17s and DH17 snubs I make are the same with the exception of the ideal range and range modifiers.

I would recommend you stay far away from DH17's. Their HAM costs are far and away the worst in the game. You are better off getting a nice 30-61 CDEF and get it sliced. Then wait for an E11 and again, get it sliced.

NEVER hunt with a non-sliced gun.

Also, make sure you use food/drink and powerups as needed. These greatly enhance your combat effectiveness.

p.s. once you get Laser Carbine cert you are set for life, it is the king of carbines

Thanks for the information. I guess reverse psychology does work! As it was noted several times all DH-17s have exaggerated HAM costs, but this is due to a bug recognized by the devs and should be corrected (at least with DH-17s madeafter the fix) when they do their "Big Patch". I'm glad to here at least one account of thedifference in range making the Snub-Nosedmore accurateclose up. Right now I'm planning to have my character use carbines almost exclusively, soI'm interested in carbinesthat can hitat short range. Obviously I try to stay in medium, but working on scout skills necessitates fighting animals that melee.
