Thread: How effective is Counterattack?
I plan on making a rifleman and was going to take carbinner to get some extra defensive boosts, or pistoleer...the pistoleer defensive boosts look nice, but I was wondering how effective +15 to counterattack would be to someone who is using rifles mostly. Thanks for the input.

If you notice, when you attack monsters, sometimes a *Dodge* comes up and you miss. Sometimes *Counterattack* comes up, and you miss just like a dodge. But then the monster gets to attack right after your miss.
In Beta Counterattack happened for my character 5 times in all the time that I had the skill, which was until the wipe of Bria. At the end I was only missing Combat xp specialist, but let me just say this skill happens so infrequently you may as well not have it. Since it occurs so rarely, one would expect quad damage. But all you get is a regular attack. One last note, of the 5 Counterattacks, only 3 hit.
Push, I don't hate pistols. I LOVE pistols. Maybe too much. I was a BH Pistol / Pistoleer in the beta and I wouldn't have gone another way even if I were payed to. It's just that, my good friend IRL was a carbineer. And when I played his character, it sucked. It was trash. That's not the pistol's fault though.
In most of my posts, I continually put the point accross that carbine's suck and that pistol's fire too accurately at long (or max) range. I don't see anything wrong in that very truthly statement.
I'm actually probably going to most likely go Carbineer. But I really want to go Pistoleer, who doesn't? I'm working on BH.. just need that combat xp. I'm just going to go from there, Pistoleer or Carbineer. That's like a decision on choosing fun.. or a class that definately needs a buff.
I find SOJ's posts helpful and insightful. I enjoy reading them very much.
Keep up your keen analysis.
Umm,
I just got a bit lost there.
SOJ, do I take that right, you are not a Carbineer, nor even any elite profession as of yet?
I might be reading something wrong here, hope so, but...
if you are not, how are Correspondents being picked?

Hewer, look at the date on SOJ's first post.
He was a BH/Pistoleer in beta. As he mentioned in this thread, he got a chance to try his friend's carbineer, and while he found that he wanted to like it, he was upset at how different the power level was between pistol and carbine.
Shortly after release, he decided to go carbineer, with, I believe, the carbine line from BH. Since then, he's worked tirelessly to try to see carbines raised up to the level of riflemen and close-range pistoleers, while at the same time reminding people that pistol accuracy seems to be messed up such that they don't take the penalties they should, which hurts both carbineers and riflemen in comparison by allowing pistols to slide in and usurp our niche ranges. He wouldn't harp on that as often as he does, except that the pistoleers don't seem interested in pointing it out to the devs. ![]()
Thanks for that reply, Kaffis.
HewerofWood:
In the Beta, I was an Avenger/Master Pistoleer (pre disarming shot 2) and then later an Avenger/Pistoleer which then later became BH Pistol 3/Near Master Pistoleer. A huge chunk of my time in the beta basically revolved around the pistol. I remember, there was a time when Pistols weren't that great at all. Carbines and rifles out damaged them easily. But then the pistol specials were changed, apparently, and pistols were doing incredible amounts of damage, similar to right now. But not as severe. I had a 25 - 125 Power5 (old faction) and I was pulling off 700 - 900 per Body Shot 2. It was later nerfed, of course. ![]()
Kaffis is also right, I had a very close friend (buddy key) who was a carbineer most of the time in the beta. I remember being jealous of him outdamaging me all the time with his very powerful carbine attacks while all I could do was nothing. Then I remember, later, killing things in a few hits that he would probably kill himself on. I've also played his Carbineer around the end of the beta.. and it just didn't compare to my character at all.
But now.. I'm going to have to say that I think.. since last Monday, I was a Master Carbineer / BH Carbine. I chose Carbineer because I wanted to do something different. I played around a little with the carbineer in the beta, and I will say that it did not compete with the all around fun, versatility and power of the pistoleer. However, the Carbineer is a powerful class. It's all right here waiting to come out.
