Thread: Carbines are ok, but pistols blow them away

I use carbines and do well,but pistols right nowcompletely blow carbines away in terms of speed and damage.



I'm bh carbine 4, bh pistols 4, carbine assault 4, carbine marksman 3.


I use a 18-256 damage 4.2 second damage laser. I also use a 113-184damage 2.1 speed scatter.


Scatter does more damage consistently, I also use a dxr6 for more consistency, still my scatterout damages it in regular shots by50-70 damage.


I really think aside from adjusting ham, that the higher end carbines need to be reworked. There is eitherdefinitely something wrong with them or they were meant to suck this bad.


The highest end carbine which is the ELITE, is pretty pathetic 80-130 damage at 4.2 spd.I know DX2's which hit for around that at 3.0 spd.

Slice the laser for speed and get the carbine assault tactics line and you'll have a 2.something speed laser.

But what do you kill people with Kaele?? Our high damage attacks are random pool attacks, that's no good in a fight that won't last two rounds.

The random attacks hit mostly health, so you can pretty reliably finish mobs through the health. If you get a mob low on action you can switch to legshot, low on mind or health you can switch to scattershot.

that's good if your fighting low ham monsters... but with monsters that have 10k... random is horrible... u need every shot to hit something specific

I had my first experience with the pistoleer "pistol whip" the other day...


I was soloing tusk cats on Rori, using a combination of bleed, knockdowns, and leg shots, hitting for 200-400 with my EE3 (still no laser carbines on Starsider). It works well, but all those specials eat up my HAM. A pistoleer walked by and apparently thought I was in danger since my HAM was at 50%, so he steps up to the cat and proceed to chain pistol whip it for 500-700 every second or so (not to mention the knockdown). That's about the damage I do with a full auto 2 shot with my EE3.


I was so disgusted I had to log off.

Pistols don't have good armor penetration. Their DPS looks high on paper, but once you factor in that it's halved vs AR1 (where as our E11, DXR6, and Laser are not--Laser even gets a bonus of 25%) then they no longer look so appealing. Furthermore Scatter Pistol is a Bounty Hunter weapon, anyway, not Pistoleer.

Has there been any hard data on how much just +5 to speed accually does? for both styles and normal shots?

I believe for every +10 speed you shave 1/10th of a second off your weapon speed. If you have +40 speed your 4.0 weapon will fire every 3.6 seconds instead

Ever seen a rifle?



Mindshot=1500+ damage



The PvP aspect of that alone says something. on a more equal fight with NPC's and monstors its still way more than most can do. except maybe when we get the high end weapons. I'm talking laser rifle here.



I believe at on pont I saw 3k damage in one shot



Pistols and carbines are equal compared to that

Garamond the high damage on rifles looks impressive, but it is not reflected in DPS. The DPS of rifles is no better than carbines, and they fire slower which is both a blessing and a curse.

If you just want to get off on high damage, a 2H swordsman with a Curved Sword can hit over 1000 points of mind damage ever 2 seconds (masters can do a lot more). The trade off is they get to play the role of punching bag.

PvP damage is being reduced by 75% so all of the "one shotting" you see now with these huge figures will soon be vastly reduced.


Honestly, rifles are not that great. Carbines are just as good, and much more fun, IMO.

I supose its possible to have 1125 mind pool but I would be wondering what that person would be doing in combat. Of course I watched adoctor friend get gunned down because she unbenownst to her accidently got a TEF form healing someone. and for some reason, after I tried to kill the guy for it I couldnt. the option wasnt there. He hten proceeded to turn around and one shot kill me.



ok the TEF wackyness is odd enough and off topic. The point is the reduced rates is still WELL within the limits to kill anyone.
