From my experience, its not so much the mods, but the specials you pick up which are the most important things. For example, you will hardly see any difference in speed after around +80. So with that in mind, try to think about which specials you would like in you're template and which would compliment each other.
What I'm saying, is don't look at things like Rifleman on its own, pay most attention to picking out the best specials and from within the professions. Once you have done this, take a look at the mods, such as the speed you will have with the weapon you want to use. If you feel you need more speed/accuracy then you can tweak the template. The most important things are the specials you have, as that determines how you play alot more than an extra +20 speed or accuracy. More specials also means more diversity.
Its easy enough to regrind, but I would recommend not investing too heavily in healing. Any 2 templates (not including Jedi) are supposed to be as close as 50:50 as possible. Currently, he who has the most efficienct healing wins and it has made at least 4000 Combat Medic or Doctor 4000 a requirement because without those, you simply can't compete with someone who does have those skills. Required skills takes diversity out of the game and makes certain templates better than others, when they are supposed to be even. Healing WILL be changed in some way, I can guarantee that. It will be worth getting used to playing without a heavy dependance on healing because when the changes come, it will be much easier for you to adapt.
The most important thing is fun. If you enjoy your template then sod what anyone else thinks about it, or wether or not you can compete with an alternative template. Pick whats fun because eventually, everything is going to be balanced and if your template is fun, you will get far more satisfaction than a template you don't really like, but does better in PvP for example.

invest in brawler armor break.
smuggler panic shot is EXCELLENT against jedi. When they low health smack them with it... they cant do anything for 20 seconds, enough time for their KD timer to wear off, next attack need be KD followed by quick crit shots.
