Is the Proton Carbine a one-time quest reward, or will it be dropped as random loot as well? I got one from the quest, but I'm hesitant to use it because I don't have an ADK, yet.
Can anybody with some inside knowlege shed some light on this? I really want to carry this gun.

Nobody is really sure on this but it has yet to be looted from anything. There seems to have been talk of some item that could repair broken items down the road but I have yet to hear any detailed information on this. What would it hurt to use this gun at the moment for "special" occassions such as Jedi hunting? Right now I'm MC, MBH, Pistols 0002 and my Proton's hitting for 750 DPS when equipped with a speed powerup.

Do the carbine mods add to the modified DPS for this? Or does it only take into account the general ranged mods?

I am just wondering if I will be able to use the proton carbine.
I am a Master carbineer/ master combat medic/ pistoleer xxx3
From what im seeing only a master bounty hunter can use it but that kinda sucks if its the case. Does anyone know what the highest damage carbine that I can use with my template is? Thanks for your help.

Proton Carb is a MBH cert but the e-11mk2 and elite carbs are good weapons.

I know this sounds kinda likea noob quesiton but would a Proton Carbine be considered the most powerful carbine?

The Proton Carbine is considered an excellent Carbine, but not the best.
A well made E11 Mk.II or Elite Carbine can yield better damage, speed, SAC Cost, and something the P.Carbine doesn't give, Accuracy.
What makes the Proton Carbine attractive is the good damage it deals, doing 90 Elemental Damage, fairly efficient SAC of 85, good speed, and for the DPS Whores, good DPS. Most of all, it is easily acquirable with a quest. You will not pay hundreds of thousands of credits, or millions, to get a Proton Carbine if you do the quest on your own.
As a MBH certified weapon, by the time you hit MBH (esp. that long Investigation Tree), you'll have a high CL in all likeliness. Doing the Ryatt Trail to get your Proton Carbine would be a walk in the park for anyone near CL80.
