Thread: other ways around 'terminal griefing' besides removing names
Interesting, but I think the answer could be even simpler:
Basic Premise: Jedi are enemies of the empire and should remain hidden. Jedi that gain visibility should be killed.
If a Jedi is on the terminal they are either stupid or want to be there. No visibility = Not on Terminal. Regardless if they are on the terminals it is their fault. When a jedi goes down their path, they know thatthey will be hunted, so stop the complaining -- Jedi -- I'm tired of it. That being said, no one wants to be griefed.
The solution, I think is simple (saying it is, coding it -- who knows -- I have over 20 yrs coding experience and I've seen just about every kind of mess possible):
1) Jedi's Name is on terminal as was in the past.
2) BH or BH's get the name and hunt the jedi (single or group) as in the past. The number of times a person appears on the terminals could be linked to their level. A low level jedi is listed only once a high level jedi a max of 5 times.
3) If the jedi is killed the name is IMMEDIATELY removed from the terminal AND any other BH who happens to have their mission. The data message can be -- "Your jedi has been killed -- Your bounty is no longer available -- Mission aborted." This just makes sense, the jedi is dead.
4) The BH or BH group that killed the jedi can NO LONGER HUNT HIM. That jedi is DEAD to them. Other BH can if they come up on the terms but for role playing reasons, the BH(s) killing the jedi will no longer see that jedi's mission if it comes up on the terminal again. Of course if jedi were really rarethis might not apply or a time frame might apply (say 1 week).
5) If the "dead" jedi gains visibility gain, I don't care if it is 1 hr later, they go back on the terminals. REMEMBER JEDI PUT THEMSELVES on the term by gaining visibility!
Seems simple to me.
Thoughts form more experienced players?
Well, that's what those with some form of brain have been begging for all the time - even though I would like to see a revert to a world where only the group leader needs the mission - with the important change that _any_ jedi, no matter what level, would only be on the terminal once. That would not solve gank squads, I know, but group hunting is, imo, an important thing.
The current system is just loads of cr ap. Period.
Still, I'd prefer this to be a minor hotfix and see some _real_ changes to other professions first.
I have but one thing to say, /cheer. !!!!!!!!!! I love this idea. It's also nice to hear someone voice a concern without crying or bashing the devs. Rock on!!!

since there seem to be a lot of issues with the recent changes i was thinking about ways to solve the griefing problem without having to remove jedi names from the terminals. this new system of displaying faction is abominable, it destroys continuity (hard to reconcile the mission details, which sometimes read "the empire has no use for the ancient jedi, regardless of their political affiliation" on an "imperial" jedi).
it seems near-impossible that there will be a change regarding the online status, so let's consider that putting the jedi names back on the terminals is an option.then, how do you prevent griefing? by removing the incentive to grief.
- implement a system where a jedi only loses xp to a bounty hunter once. there are enough jedi around these days that differentiating shouldn't be a problem. the bh can still see that jedi's mission, take it, and complete it, after all, said jedi did get on the terminals again.also, it would encourage bh's to work together in aconstructive way.
- reduce the xp loss for jedi from twice their bounty to just the amount of the bounty. this way it would take twice the # of kills to lose the same amount of xp.
- reduce the amount of bh's that can hold a jedi's mission. i know it used to be 5, now some people are saying it's been reduced to 3 to account for the fact that it's much harder for alts to hold missions. if nameswere put back, then reduce the number to 4, making it that much harderto gang up on low-level jedi while still allowing groups of 2-4 to take on fully templatedjedi.
-decay jedi missions afterashorter timespan. i know this has been implemented, but if possible it would be reasonable to have a 1-hour time limit from the time the mission is takento get the bio-signature and launch the first droid. this would prevent alts holding missions. also reduce the decay on missions to 2 days instead of the current 3.
- now that visibility is not gained by group members, wouldn't griefing have been significantly reduced anyway, possibly negating the need to remove names, since the chances of finding a jedi you just completed a mission on on the terminals again immediately would be reduced?
basically i just want the fun back. this is a game, after all. seems like, to me at least, that this last publish took most of the fun out of hunting jedi. andNOT because i was a griefer, because it's too frustrating to even start a hunt these days. is it griefing for me to want to group up with one or two of my guildmates and take on a full template? i call that fun and excitement (hopefully for both sides), something this _game_ seems to be lacking more and more these days.

so your saying jedi should not have fun now but evryone else can . I knew what i was gettin my self into when i became a jedi but we are intitle to have fun like any other players we pay for our account to be fun..ow since there are no group vis im happy becuse now i can hunt in group and with my guild soe put the fun ack into the game for some jedi. I think it was a good idea for takeing names off the terms. I for one hated getting on the terms but ihad to do it to get xp sine it was so borning grinding solo since the cu.
Sorry, have to disagree. Name's on the terminals = griefing. A upsets B. B then gets every one of his friends to kill A, over and over and over again.
And if you haven't noticed, 1 vs 1 jedi vs bh is challenging and fun. 2 vs 1 and 3 vs 1 in the current system is impossible for a jedi.
Your proposal will only bring griefing back into the game.
i don't think so. removing group visibility, reducing xp loss, etc., will all reduce the incentive to grief. and fixing the LOS bug, and the /offerride fix will mean more fair fights and less frustration overall. yes 1 v 1 jedi/bh is challenging, if it ever gets to that point. 2 v 1 and 3 v 1 is not impossible for a full template.

In particular, I like the ideas of: lowering xp loss to commensurate with mission payout, removing dead mark's missions from every BH's datapad, removing xp loss from repeated kills (i.e.- PVP ratings), LOS fix (already implemented?), /offerRide fix, and bringing back names on the terminals. For the simple reasons of immersion, fairness, and fun. I only reiterate these ideas because they will be more fun for everyone. I love the feeling of turning a would be ganker into dust. Sometimes you eat the bar...
