Thread: Question about bomb droids

I see 2 types typically.

The "mouse" droids dont cost alot, but I dont understand the det thing. How do I know what kind of damage a bomb droid of this type will do? Are they really worth it?

The other types I see are the R3/R5 bomb droids, and those are more explanitory I think. Now, the last time I looked at one was pre-CU, but the R3 did 4500 HAM damage to all three bars. Now, just kinda figure that it would be somewhat the same thing here post-CU?

Last but not least, are these even worth it? Do they really work?

droid bombs tend to still be buggy. As for det. Mouse droids cap at 39, and the R3s cap in the 50s I think..I could be wrong as I ony use mouse droids. As to which mouse to use...its your call. mouse droids are small and often not spotted till it is too late. Mouse droids generally wont incap in one hit..unless you get lucky. R3s generally wont incap in one hit either unless you get lucky. I have seen a jedi get hit by 2 R3s and not break a sweat while another gets incapped by a mouse.

Best bet is just buddy up to a DE for some to test, and play around with them. I actually use them a lot and always have 3 ready to go in my inventory...they make great distractions if nothing else.

The last couple of jedi's I've faught have used cloak. I have read that bomb droids are a good answer for this. I purchased a crate of them , but I'm not sure how to use them. I get a detonate option, and the thing follows me around until it detonates. How do I get it to chase my mark? I've read that some people use macros to do this. I am macro-intolerant, so I could use a play-by-play to help me set it up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need ro prgram commands into just like any other droid. Such as follow me or follow target, etc. It is on the radial command. Also if you program four commands and add a name before th command such as Mike store, Mike Follow, etc it will be renamed to mike, then you can regprogram those commands to store, follow etc and your droid will have a name allowing you to target and activate it in a macro. Hope this helps, the DE forums would also be a good place to look on droid commands.

m8 this is really nice. Please dont take offense by that but thats one of the things that makes it great to be a new player.

Bomb-Droid follows BH

BH: Get it off me. How do I use it!

Evil Jedi: You need to tell him to explode...

BH: What do u mean? Explode?

Droid: Boom!

Sorry, I know it wasnt really like this and doesnt work like this and so on. But I have a cartoon in mind with that scene. Maybe because it reminds me of my first encounter with a droid in the first week I played. I had a Zabrak going for Rifleman/Squadleader and we have been always short on medics in our groups (20 toons on squill-hunts ftw) Loads of SL-xp... sigh... anyways: As I was browsing the Bazaar I saw that "Medical Droid" for 5k and bought it. Then the other day when we had to rest in a camp (yes, no buffs, no medic= camping) I remembered that droid, called it and nothing... It didnt do anything... Someone said I need to program it via radial... I couldnt find the "Heal"-Command... So, I just said "Heal" in spatial... nothing... then I noticed some "semi-vets" roling on the floor laughing... the told me after some time. I didnt really laugh back then. But your story... THX you made my day

Oh, and I think Maita explained it pretty well. Except: When you give him commands with at least 2 letters you can use

/tellpet CommandHere

That is silent (doesnt show in spatial), has a huge range and, well, is silent.

Glad I could make your day...lol. I appreciate the help, but, alas, I am still having problems. This is my macro:

/tellpet follow target;

/pause 0.1;

/target bob;

/pause 0.1;

/detonate;

/pause 0.1;

/target jedi;

/pause 0.1;

/tellpet follow target

I practiced this macro with a buddy, and the darn droid still followed me. I put my friends name in place of 'jedi', and named the droid bob.....because "Bob then Bomb Droid" was too long =). I'm sure there is something wrong with my macro, so can anyone disect it and let me know where I went wrong? Thanks again.

I wouldnt use 1 macro for everything because it depends on how far the Jedi is away, but its your choice/experience how you do it.

/tar jedi;

/tellpet followTarget; (where followTarget is your command to make the droid to follow the target)

That macro will target the Jedi and tell your droid to follow this target.

When the Droid is in proper range

/tellpet detonate; (where detonate is your command to make the droid detonate)

Now, if you wanna have it in one macro use

/tar jedi;

/tellpet followTarget;

/pause x; (where x is the pause in seconds)

/tellpet detonate;

If you dont want to update the macro for each Jedi you can leave the /tar Jedi out and just target him yourself.

This is how it should work. I never really used a Bomber so call me noob if it doesnt

btw: dont use it on me

the follow command makes him follow you

you want the chase command

/target [jedi];
/tellpet chase;
/pause 5; (let the little guy catch up to the mark)
/detonatedroid;

thats what i used to use.

If my mark is AFK in the rryatt trails, around 7 other AFK jedi, and i send in a bomb droid, will my bomb droid only affect my mark, or the whole cluster of jedi?

but it will also affect any MOBs in the area as well, so if doesnt kill them outright you could be in for a surprise.
