Thread: Weapon of choice?

I was just curious what weapon everyone planned on using. In beta I started out to be a rifleman, but in the end had my sights set on BH. I am still working on the marksmen tree and almost have the 3 weapon types and support to advanced. It seems to me that pistol or carbine would be the best choices. Rifle is nice, but the advantage is gone once someone gets in range of you. I hear pistols are very accurate and there are some very nice specials later on. I do not know much at all about carbines.

Also, does anyone have any experience/opinions about how a BH would perform in PvP? It would seem all their combat abilites would make them very skilled killers in a battle. Are snipers a problem with specials that dmg the mind pool? What about melee types? Do they pose a large threat. Don't get me wrong, I am not in search of the uber kill-all PvP character. I have my heart set on becoming a BH regardless of how difficult the path is. Just curious as to how a BH might perform. Thanks!

All I can tell you is what I have learned from other posts as I have no PVP experience as of yet. BH appear to be quite good in 1 on 1 pvp but suffer in group battles. That fits though, since BH's aren't exactly soldiers but more lone hunters.

As far as guns go I would say all three are usefull. It would depend on the situation and/or your playstyle. If you want to ambush your prey and take them out from range then go with rifles. If you want a face to face confrontation then pistols are the way to go. Carbine has a skill for knocking down your opponent which is essential in PVP (so i hear).

The last thing you have to look at as far was weapons is damage. Pistols do health damage, Carbines to Action, and Rifles to Mind. Depending on your targets strengths you might need to change weapons from time to time. The ideal way to take out that master brawler would be a few headshots from about 50 meters. But you don't want to get in a sniping match with a rifleman now do you. Burst run into his face with a pistol would be my advice (but again this is hypothosizing, as I haven't done any pvp yet).

I would deffinatly have pistol maxed out though, cause you wont be able to handle a melee who gets up close with rifle or carbine, the damage bonus is to great. Hope this helps you out some. Good hunting!

The big thing I notice about BH weapons is that once you become a Bounty Hunter you continue to advance your skills in Pistol and Carbine, but you no longer get anything for the Rifle. That might narrow your choice by one, methinks. Another fact of note is that certain weapons are better at doing damage to certain abilities. The pistol gets attacks against health, the carbine against action... etc. That means you can exploit someone's relative weakness in one area with appropriate weapon choice.

Btw, has anyone noticed that even without the special attacks, the weapons tend to hit their certain ability type more often? I seem to do a lot more damage to action than other stats when I'm using a carbine even without using leg shot. Same for rifles and mind and pistols and body.

Yeah I had noticed that about the carbines. Makes sense though. Why have a special to do action damage when the normal hit is gonna do health 60% of the time.

As far as what you said about rifles not being used. I kinda assumed the Lightning Rifle used rifle skills. If it doesn't that kinda sucks. Of course the lightning rifle might own hard enough by itself, don't know, haven't seen one yet.

How good are the specialized BH weapon specials? I will have several points left over after I reach master BH, but is it worth spending them on a specialized weapon tree? A BH seems like an in-your-face type of combatant so pistol or carbine would do very well. Would a BH be effective enough with just the BH weapon specials. I was under the impression that you could be very effective with all 3 weapons which results in you being able to dmg all the HAM pools. Let me know if I am off base. Thanks.

The BH skills are very nice. I'm speaking for Pistol and Carbine skills. I cannot speak for the lightning rifle moves, however, I was told that the lightning rifle uses rifle moves.

If you master you will have 32 points left over which you can use to complement a weapon or do whatever.

Lightning Rifles use their OWN moves As far as I know. Lightning Cone and then another Lightning move that i forgot the name of. I've seen this weapon twice in actions, and let me tell you, it was awesome and quick. I plan on getting one of these no matter how expensive they are once i get to BH ( only 6 more skill boxes).

Gotta start working on DF and UW, so I need some advice on what kind of pistol to use. Scout? FWG5? DX? All 3? Let me know what the word is from the people who have been there.

I use a good scout blaster. It has lower max damage, but the min damage and speed are better. Better for my style of fighting.

I find what's best for me is to carry two weapons. I carry an FWG5 as my primary weapon (sliced for damage) and a Scout Blaster (damage-sliced as well) as a secondary, for Heat-resistant targets. Once I can find a good DX2, I'll grab one of those too.
