Thread: THE DUEL EXPLOIT

Bottom line, duel has to return the same message to the /duel requester, whether your target can actually accept the /duel or not.

Just a simple "Now challenging %TT to a duel".

Give the message as to whether or not a duel can be accepted to the target of the duel request.

Uhm - bad idea since some people are dueling friends or group members to pass time while waiting for an attack (dont ask me for the reasoning behind it, but I have seen it). Not being able to /endduel a friend at any time when real threats emerge and therefore not being able to get help from him through healing / buffing / whatever is not a good design.

If the TEFs are working right, you shouldn't be able to get any help / healing / buffing from anyone once the BH attacks anyway.

Please read the whole thread and you will see my answer to this statement.

I did read the whole thread. Please don't make assumptions.

If you are dueling a Jedi friend, and a BH attacks him/her, it doesn't matter if you endduel or not - you will *not* be able to aid/buff/heal the Jedi if the BH TEF is working correctly.

Well, then you probably didnt notice the post I already made in response to this being brought up by somebody else. It is here. BH / Jedi is not all of the game.

I understand that - I merely think that if a Jedi ran the risk of actually having to fight anyone they used /duel to check, they'd be less inclined to abuse it.

I think that challenging someone shouldn't be something you can just withdraw immediately.

The one who has the option of doing /enduel isnt your mark anyway.

This thread should be dead. The word exploit has been driven from eveyones mind.

The /duel command is INTENDED to initiate combat with someone whom you cannot otherwise fight. It is NOT intended to be used by those who DO NOT wish to initiate combat, nor is it intended to be used against people you can already fight - that's what the existing TEF system is for. There's a reason Jedi cannot pre-emptively attack the BH, THAT is intended.

Now, is it clear to you, or do we need flash cards and a puppet show to get the point across?

Smartest person here. I am a jedi, and I think this is wrong to do as well.

I had a similar thing happen to me on the Ryatt trail when I was on a quest. There was a group of about 8 or 10 Jedi grinding together and they all started /duelexploiting me and asking who I was after. It turned into a pretty ugly discussion. It was really the worst experience I have had on SWG.

Very easy fix...

If a Jedi duels you it should just say "You challenge so and so to a duel..."

But don't display anything on the Bounty Side. Just have it be ignored. Why would it be so hard to implement that?

I have a better fix.

Remove JEDI, so we can all play a game based in the time of the original trilogy again.
