Thread: Jedi?

Obi-Wan: "That Boy is our only hope."
Master Yoda: "No, there is another."
At the time of New Hope, the Jedi are all but wiped out. There is a feeling of futility knowing there are only TWO who can carry on the mantle of Jedi.
SOE is also the only medium to have an abundance of Jedi when there should be only a handful. This is due, I believe, to mistakes made by the Marketing Divison at Sony and then over looked by the intelligent and forward thinking individuals in charge of the whole game.
The packaging for "An Empire Divided" states:
"You may even decide to set yourself on the path to become one of the ancient and myserious Jedi Knights."
"Join the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire, or seek out the ancient mysteries of the Jedi."
"...whether you become a bounty hunter or a dancer or a merchant or even a Jedi."
Was this intended or was it an oversight or did Sony scramble to put Jedi into the game to stay out of court because of marketing errors? Maybe someone at Sony decided George's ideas needed improving on? What would George say if he logged in one day and happend by the Geo caves?
I can remember the day I started playing "An Empire Divided". I loaded into one of the starter cities of Tatooine and saw my first Graul Mauler. I thought I was dead and I hadn't even started the game yet. I was in awe and that amazement lasted a month or two before my friends were no longer available for hunting, looting or even chatting. They were too busy looking for the coveted Jedi Holocron. If they had thier Holocrons, they were caught up in the endless grind that would eventually lead to... a Jedi.
My proposals:
All Jedi, regardless of rank are reduced to Force Sensitive with 6 trees of thier choosing. The Galaxy is full of FS beings, it binds us together.
This has three-fold impact on the game:
1. All the grief and hate and grinding over Jedi can finally end. We my not get the glory days of SWG, but we can come close, I'm sure.
2. "An Empire Divided" can finally fit in with the rest of the story. It won't have to be a "What If" any longer.
3. Most importantly, the DEVs can focus on the proffesions that really keep this game running. Look at all the problems that could have been fixed in patch 10 if it hadn't been devoted to Jedi.
Look at that! BH no longer grief about Jedi (I do beieve they should be able to take missions on anyone through the faction system but that is another topic alltogether), Jedi get FS skills, every proffesion gets the attention it needs, George Lucas keeps his ultimate vision intact and SOE can release a "Jedi" expansion when the game reaches the time of ROtJ. Everyone wins!

Yet another misconception of a jedi-hater that jedi should be rare. I still fail to see why jedi should be rare. Is it because "I don't want to invest the time (or cant). So since I can't become jedi, no one else should be able to either"? This is SWG, the game. Not SWG, the movie. If your argument for having few jedi is to hold any water at all, you should also be proposing that bountyhunters should be even more rare than jedis in the game. No armorsmiths, no weaponsmiths, and so on. Why? Because there are none in the movies!!! It's a silly argument and people are getting sick of hearing it all the time. The Star Wars movies are not to be read like the bible. They are the foundation on which this game is based. Note BASED! It was never intended to be a replica. So to say that few jedi in the move = few jedi in the game, is simply a childish argument. Or to use an expensive word; a sylogysm (spelling).
Stones can't fly; Creeno can't fly. Therefor Creeno is a stone.
If you have ideas as to why jedi should be rare that has bearing on the GAME and not the movie, I will listen to your points. Just remember that this is a game, and every effort to enhance the gaming experience should be made. If you believe that your gaming experiencewould beenhancedby playing SWG without any jedi in it, hey, that's your oppinion. But to keep hanging your hat on the "jedi were rare in the movie" argument, I think proves more than anything that you have totally missed the point of this game.
Maybe your post would have had a point to it beforeSWG was launched. A lot of arguments can be put both for and against having jedi in the game. But seeing as Jedi are a reality in this game now and that removing jedi from the game will only result in an 80-90% cancelation rate, the discussion is academic at best.
Creeno
Oh yeah? Which ones did I miss? I've seen episodes II-VI. Please tell me your not talking bout that Ewok TV show, or the Christmas Movie.

Jedi should be rare, but this game is borked and there's nothing we can do about it.
While Jedi is available, I'm going for it myself.
Well done for making a post that's been made ninety trillion times already.
you say they should be rare?
I ask you why because of the movies?
That one sentence is just as bad as the dork that started this post. When I was a kid I had all the toys, books, comics and movies. The first movie i've ever seen in the theaters was ESB. From that point on I liked jedi and the entire idea of thiier powers. At that point on I entertained myself by reading and playing with starwars related stuff. A Jedi is thehero, the savior. The are the keepers of the peace or the darkest strength of the enemy. Almost everyone wants to be thee hero or the most feared enemy.
As far as Jedi being rare in this game it is not possible. I pay my monthly fee as u do along with the other 750,000+ players. WE all deserve Jedi if we want it. This game is a completly differant entity as the movies. It is set in the starwars story. There is no time line here. Besides time is always in motion. The future is hard to see always. Consider this game a part of the story you denfend that was untold. Although I would not mind seeing some of the Jedi haters able to choose a non Jedi server if they want. But thats because I like to see people happy and dont like complaints.
There are so many problems with this game other then Jedi. Some talk about a type of balance in the game and so forth. I dont think there should be any balance. I think some professions SHOULD be more powerfull/ weaker then others in some way or the other. Each profession should have its advantages and disadvantages. Rifleman should do the most damage and be the most accurate at far range. But they should not be as fast as a pistoleer or that good at close range. Commandos should hit for uber damage and should NEVER miss ( flame thower ,rocket launcer How can you miss spraying flames?) But should be slow. Combat medics should not have an area posion it is f'ing stupid. How can u area posion only your enemies an not your alleys wth is that. THey should have no range what so ever IMO. At the most maybe they should be able to add some sort ofdots to weapons. Not to mention the power of thier posions is dumb. Why is it that some professions can target mind and others cant? Why do TKA have one damage type. Why do smugglars have th most powerful pistol special. Why do Bounty hunters have the most effective kd with a carbine. Why does fencer dizzy stick fasterthen any profession but tka last the longest. What is " your so dizzy you fall down"? Have you ever been that dizzy with out spinning around 50 times that you could not stand up. Jedi is the least of the problems in this game period.
Those are the things we all should be complaining about. Not jedi. Jedi were the main thing in the movie that made the movie. MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU. Although this was not the most frequent saying in the movies (fyi "Igot a bad feeling about this" was) The force was interesting. Jedi were the hero. Alot, not all butmost liked Jedi. Jedi have a very very tough road ahead of them to becomearguably too powerful. Not to mention the fact that while a low lvl Jedi is grinding and gaining xp at anytime they can be attacked. Or as we say on my server GANKED. By anywhere from 1 to 15 or more people. Bounty hunters are out thier and they are playing thier role. Although there are some things I disagree with in these situations. e.i. BH g'Tef, same faction attackable. I dont mind them nor do I care if they kill Jedi. If you find it fun to gank someone trying to enjoy them selves then go for it. If that is how you want to spend your time playing the game fine. What goes around comes around. I will never be included in a Bounty hunter gank squad.
These are the things I hope the devs look into. Jedi has had thier love. Let them be what they are. I will be very very happy within the game in 6 weeks when I am grinding my last branch out. I will get intiate and then padawan. After awhile I will reach Knight. Hopefull by then the FRS will not be impossible and I will get to Sentinal and then MASTER. I will enjoy every minute of it with a smile on my face.

you gonna post this garbage on every board... dont think BHs will agree with you either, your basically taking away thier only content with your lame proposal... Here let me repeat my reply from the FS forums....
SWG is not the movies players choose thier own destiny and will foten decide not to be a whiney farm boy, a slick talking smuggler, a bun headed princess, a gay robot couple or a villan with breathing difficulty. The movies were great but they didnt have cloners, holocrons, TKMs or melee classes featyured in them either.
The entire timeline argument just dosent hold water, you are seeing a single story thru the eyes of just a few people. SOE didnt sneak in Jedi, they were approved by Lucas Arts from the beginning and featured on Trailers for JTL because they are a good selling point and for most players the pinnacle of thier gaming experience in SWG.
This kind of post is just a new version of the " GL is mad and is going to delete all jedi and fire SOE " type of post that I shoot down at least once daily. You are personally bothered by the fact that many players have attained jedi status. Either you are upset because of the timeline problem( do all of your characters fit an perfect movie archtype? ), Because you dont have a jedi, because you have a Jedi and just hate that you cant be the only one, or some other reason perhaps even just a troll?
You are taking this game far to seriously if you are bothered by it like this. Games are supposed to be fun, and players with jedi characters are having loads of fun... and YOU DONT WANT THEM TO...
You would get great pleasure watching thousands of players that worked for months have thier characters stripped down to nothing and 24 skill points in the hole as a punishment. And not only would you enjoy and/or prefer it you dont even have the common sense to keep it to yourself. You come to the board where the largest number of people would be offended/dumbfounded/enraged or perhaps hoping someone would validate your fantsy.
You should be ashamed of yourself for wanting to ruin other peoples leisure time activities. when you see children playing in the street do you think it would be better if they had to go to school 7 days a week 16 hour days.
You have no buisness playing a game that allows interaction with other people, you are selfish and immature and seem to be very upset that you cant have things your way.
Jedi are not going anywhere, alot of starwars mega fans love thier jedi characters and would boycott LA and SOE if something that ridiculous were to ever take place.
In the end, years from now when SWG is still bringing in new players and people are still doing the FS grind, and more jedis become created and special Jedi mission terminals are created, and Jedi designed content, I am glad to say that you will have either cancelled your account or be spending time in jail for poisoning trick or treaters because you caught them dressed up like starwars charactrs.
You are absolutley the most pathetic, desperatley ridiculous person on the planet.
BH may dislike many Jedi that FD or log on/off but trust me they love em when they are standing over thier corpses and just made a quarter of a million credits with on boot to the skull. i dont think hunting NPCs will ever replace the feeling you get from knocking the pi$$ out of someone holding a lightsaber.
If you read my WHOLE original post, you would see that I agree BH should be able to get missions on ANY player through the faction point system. This would give them even more content, as they would be hunting every profession not one.
The removal of Jedi is in no way a punishment, though I can see it taken that way. I myself am about to put Jedi on but wouldn't be bothered if they were removed from the game. I hardly think there are thousands of Jedi running around the servers, but even if there were, what loss is that for SOE? Most of the players would be back before long anyways and, you are right, more players would come and they would fill the void.
As a basis for the Lucas Arts income, the Star Wars storyline is the most important factor in any endeavor. You can't have a storyline without a timeline. I fail to see how the Timeline doesn't hold water.
I am getting some great feedback on other forums and I will be adding to the original post later today.
