Thread: THE DUEL EXPLOIT
I landed on Kash with my Jedi, I got the /duel /endduel as well, I think it's funny.

an easy fix shoudl be that you can't /endduel for 2.5 min like BH teffs - they'd be less likely to try it then!
Uhm - bad idea since some people are dueling friends or group members to pass time while waiting for an attack (dont ask me for the reasoning behind it, but I have seen it). Not being able to /endduel a friend at any time when real threats emerge and therefore not being able to get help from him through healing / buffing / whatever is not a good design.
If the TEFs are working right, you shouldn't be able to get any help / healing / buffing from anyone once the BH attacks anyway.

Working as intended.

Don't you love it how everyone refers to things they don't like as an exploit? You can blame this one however on the Bh's who WERE useing an exploit on the /duel to prevent the Jedi from attacking....
Point of note here... Something can be working as intended and still be 'exploited'...
The exploit is using it to see if the BH has your mission... surely no one thinks that was the intended use for this in the minds of the devs...
Another example... from the world of Star Wars.... the exhaust port on the death star was working 'as intended' but was EXPLOITED by the rebelsheh
See
No kidding. The devs should ban that Skywalker punk.
Damn haxx0rz.

Yes, and this fix was done because BHs exploited /duel to override the BH TEF and keep a Jedi from fighting back unless he also /dueled the BH.
But they forgot to take into account that a Jedi should not know if a BH has his mission unless the BH reveals himself. In the Jedi / BH case it shouldnt be a message like the current one but a behaviour as if the BH declined the duel after 5 seconds, for example.
As far as I am concerned a Jedi being able to tell a BH has his mission before the BH himself chooses to make it known by attacking or some other means is violating the design of the BH / Jedi system in which a BH is supposed to have the first strike surprise attack. Therefore it cannot be intended and is a bug. And using a bug to gain an advantage over somebody else is exploiting.
First thing... I have never used this as I think it's just dumb paranoia for Jedi to use it. That said.. let me comment on the highlighted segment above.
Please show me... ANYWHERE... where is states that BH get a *surprise* attack. It does state that BH get the FIRST attack, but nothing about SURPRISE attack. In fact... a Jedi *should* know it's coming "Feels a Disturbance in the Force" or something like that.
So... get off your high soap box. BH already get to chose the method of attack and the first strike. If someone is taking advantage of a working system to their advantage, so be it.

Please read the whole thread and you will see my answer to this statement.
Correct... you don't intend to duel them, but it is not an exploit. If you are calling that an exploit, then anyone that goes up to you and offers to trade when they have no intention of doing so is also an exploit. You need to watch out on how you use that word.

Not having this skill should be a good indication that using "/duel" to get that knowledge is not an intended use of the system.
On top of that, when you use the "/duel" command in the way you describe it, you do not use "/duel" in the way it was meant to be used: To duel another player. You have no intention of dueling at all.

Well, as I see it it is an exploit because a Jedi uses it to verify if a BH has a mission on him.
But if you dont want to view it as an exploit, I also view it as an harassment - being spammed with /duel /endduel is not as bad as being spammed with /offerride or /trade, but surely belongs into the same category

If someone is spamming me with trades to ruin my gaming experience i would consider it harassment and or an exploit. in this case a Jedi uses duel to ruin the continuity of the game. If a Jedi was suppose to know who has their mission they would get a lil message say "you are being hunted by hyperhypo"

You have a very poor understanding of the "job" of a Jedi. They're the guardians of peace, justice and order in the Galaxy. They don't murder cops standing outside starports, they don't butcher Feral Wookiees on Kashyyyk (leave that to the Empire) and they don't run like cowards from a one-on-one fight.
But I'm not surprised to hear from yet another Jedi who has no idea of his role. Sadly it attracts more than its share of spineless powergamers who want to be "uber" until the odds are against them.

You never ran?.... never? I mean, in PvP battles nor PvE?... maybe not... but you do not lose 2 mil Xp either if you die.
I'm no jedi btw.

Anytime you want to go 1 on 1 versus me, then I will be more than happy to oblige. But I will tell you, you MUST have my mission, and you MUST accept the fact that I WILL survive. I may not kill you, BUT I WILL SURVIVE.
Now with the way you are speaking, you MUST role-play quite a bit on your server. If not, PLEASE tell me how I am suppose to be the GUARDIAN OF PEACE, JUSTICE AND ORDER IN THE GALAXY. Does that mean to you that just because a bounty hunter comes after me, that I MUST fight him? Not on your life.
As I have said before, I wish people would QUIT generalizing every freaking jedi to be the same type of player. I am not what you call a "spineless powergamer who wantto be 'uber' until the odds are against". To be perfectly honest, you have NO IDEA WHAT BEING A BOUNTY HUNTER IS ALL ABOUT.
Hell, I dont even know you....you are on a different server than I am....but you are the lowest bh I have ever had the pleasure in talking with. COME TO SCYLLA LITTLE BOY.....LETS DO IT.
