I use both a scatter and an adv laser rifle. They both have their uses, I typically put a SAC pup on my scatter and keep it for close range or low sac situations. But I usually start with my laser rifle. I use a damage pup on my laser rifle putting it to just below 1300max damage. I can almost always take half health in that first sniper shot even against a master defender unless I miss the shot for some reason (good time to use aim btw).
I find that Jedi seem to have a harder time keeping up with the heals if I'm doing it at 1k-1.5k per hit instead of with a pistol which makes it hit faster but at only 400-600 per hit. I have both weapons krayted with high stats on them, though I do use different pups on them which ultimately effect them in different ways.
Adv Laser Rifle (unpupped)
1136 max (pup ups this to roughly 1288max)
2.5x speed
85 SAC
HC Scatter (unpupped)
895 max
1.9x speed
69 SAC (pup drops this to 49 sac)

mine is a double bladed saber , 708 damage , presently with lots of skill mods, 697 dps, thats normal, but i can add some speed buffs to it. im the one on ahazi who used to be hunted alot. my poor pvp rating was down to 1k i believe. i finished my template 1 week prior to cu, and i was a jedi. then the cu ruined my profession and most of all the others, docs, ents. now im a flashlight holder/medic, that has to lower myself to killing respec bh s, my pvp rating is now 1700, and growing. all fromrespec bh s. the real good bh s , pre cu, dont hunt me, and if they did im ok with it. the post cu respecers, are my pvp rating delight. i cant wait til they take names off the terminals. and i start getting my share of respecers, delicious.

My new wep of chiose is the Nullifier X Rifle. has over 1100 max dam and I can get it up to 1250 when pupped right.
I love this thing. It totally rocks. Killed a 225k jedi in 4 shots with it. Killed a 180k in 4 shots too. The attack speed is like 2.5 i think so it fires pretty quick. The necrosis drops it.

Q: I just respec'd from DE into combat (yes - I'm one of those idiots). My guildie gave me an adv laser rifle with 1003 max dam, 94 SAC, un p'uped, unsliced. If I get it sliced, what are the downsides to that?

Adv Laser Rifle until I get far enough along to consider using Powers....and even then it might still be a laser rifle.
