Thread: The Jedi Census Phenomenon (anyone who thinks there are too many, read this)
The Jedi players know we are right but they are trying so very hard to stop the re-addition of permadeath. I can only say it is inevitable.

for every 10 jedi per 100 regular professions there are over 110 million npc's over the lifespan of all the characters involved...unless all 110 player characters huddle together and never leave each others sight, in which case there would still be at least 11 million npc's
every time you kill an npc it dies and is replaced by another npc...obviously system resources being demanding as they are cannot create an environment where theed has millions of non player characters active at one time.

the only permadeath you will see is when you delete your toons, something that I can't imagine too many people would be unhappy about given your intolerance of people living out their saga in the star wars universe.
As it's called the "Jedi Order," here are all the Ecclesiastical definitions (I hate it when people cite dictionary.com, but what the hell.) To me, the 2nd to last one counts - they're a "kind" of people. However, there are plenty of arguments here to say that it's a religious order, as well.
Ecclesiastical.
Any of several grades of the Christian ministry: the order of priesthood.
The rank of an ordained Christian minister or priest. Often used in the plural.
The sacrament or rite of ordination. Often used in the plural.
Any of the nine grades or choirs of angels.
A group of persons living under a religious rule: Order of Saint Benedict.
An organization of people united by a common fraternal bond or social aim.
A group of people upon whom a government or sovereign has formally conferred honor for unusual service or merit, entitling them to wear a special insignia: the Order of the Garter.
The insignia worn by such people.
A social class. Often used in the plural: the lower orders.
A class defined by the common attributes of its members; a kind.
Degree of quality or importance; rank: poetry of a high order.
b) An organization of people united by a common fraternal bond or social aim.
c) A group of people upon whom a government or sovereign has formally conferred honor for unusual service or merit, entitling them towear a special insignia: the Order of the Garter.
d) A social class. Often used in the plural: the lower orders.
e) A class defined by the common attributes of its members; a kind.
pulled these off of yahoo education, references, dictionary...under "order"

I can't believe I'm still coming back to this. HENCE, this is a game, not real life, the ratios as far as PLAYERS ARE CONCERNED are jedi fat. Who cares about NPC's they're about as entertaining as a ceramic ronald mcdonald, you look at em but theres no love. The Non Player controlled characters add nothing to this game at all man. Trying to toss them into your argument is totally irrevelant. Out of 110 million "there out there but we'll never see em" NPC's there are no chefs, tailors, or creature handlers? Just dudes that stand around, motionless? Thats a GREAT EU you're living in. I'll accept that for 10 jedi you have 100 regular profs and for 100 regular profs you have 100 stay at home moms or dead beat dads who contribute nothing to the galaxie. Still, thats 5 per 100 people running around with glow sticks.
Other than perma death, theres that "we want a jedi free server" idea floating around, is that what inspired this?
I wouldn't exclude atheists and agnostics, as I'm one - if you called me, I'd sure as hell Jedi, just for sh1ts and giggles. I remember this, and it was just plain silly.
Atheist = Believes there is no god, therefore it can't be a "religion"
Agnostic = Believes there is no way to tell if there is or isn't a higher power, therefore can't be a "religion"
However, in such things as census forms and whatnot, onecan be askedasked for their "religious affiliation".
Athiest is a viable answer to this. Many athiests (myself included) see to it that this affiliation is noted in such data gathering because we are underrepresented and often marginalized in Western Culture.

Sure that's fine but marking yourself down as a "religion" is wrong. You're not.
+1
