the idea of the system is good but another way they could do it, so people wouldn't have to volunteer is have it based on negative faction. instead of having other players place the bounties they could make it soif you have maxed negative faction in a certain group, like hutts, valarians, etc... that your namewould go on the terminals. once your mission was taken and you were killedyou would gain +1000 or so points for that faction so you wouldn't go back on the terminals unless you worked your way to the max negative faction again.

I like the system laid out by the OP here... seen a million of these threads and this is probably one of the first that actually (mostly) makes sense. Only thing I'd ditch innitially is the surcharge for a bh to actually take the mission. Also... it needs to be clarified in the original post... but I feel that the only people that can PLACE a mark on another player, HAVE to be registered themselves, and any bounties placed by a player will be removed from the terminals as soon as that player "opt's out" or "unregisters". That is almost enough incentive on it's own for people to participate. I'd think anyone who likes to /duel all the time or wants a different flavor of PvP would be more than interested. This is something TO DO. People always want something to do... especially if they are sick of grinding.

I only fail to see what the "incentive" is for someone to PLACE a mark on another player.... they get an email saying the contract has been fulfilled? I get an email everytime I buy an item from a vendor or the bazaar...

It's a good idea, but I see two major flaws:

1) Not all that many people will want to be hunted. So it would be a waste of coding time.

2) As soon as it's implemented, Jedi will say "How comewe can't use that system? How come WE get hunted just 'cause we gain vis?" So, in that way, I think it's a VERY bad idea. It only gives the Jedi something else to whine about.

Why not have the defeated mark pay a percentage of the bounty to the creator upon completion? The mark would still stand to gain if he survives the 7 day period (provided he receives the payout as I suggested).

I thought of that, but didn't want to add any "dis-incentives" for people regsistering to be a mark.

I think with the proper incentives, players will risk taking a possible dis-incentive.

CaixCatab's idea has been one of the best so far. Even if amark dies every time, a bonus to XP would out-weigh any monetary losses.

Either way, I think a dis-incentive for the mark is necessary for the same reasons it's necessary for the hunter.

PS: I agree with the rest of the stuff you said.

Oh btw, do you intend on the payouts to be hidden as well? The whole point of posting a large bounty is to convince hunters to take it. But if the amount is hidden, wouldn't a contracter just post a very small bounty as the hunter wouldn't know what he's pulling anyhow?

Of course you'd have to have some randomness in the displayed amounts, otherwise it would be too easy for hunters to pull the same mission by comparing payouts.

1) 10% of the bounty upon killing a hunter is a pretty good reason to be hunted. And don't forget CaixCatab's idea of XP bonuses for registrees

2) In all honesty, @!&% the Jedi. The current PC bounty system of vis/XP loss is quickly going down the drain anyhow. If SOE wants to make Jedi a starter prof, fine, whatever, I've given up on that fight. But I'd at least like to have a replacement player bounty system ready by the time the current one is gone.

20k (assuming the bounty is 200k) doesn't give me the incentive to do much else than /belch. I don't know about you, but I don't consider this much "high end" content (where this game is suffering.)

You are more than welcome to give up the fight. I won't. I'm not tired of Jedi, other than they're whining for more, more, and more. Hunting Jedi is a critical piece of the BH profession, and I won't give that up for a random chance to hunt someone who CLEARLY will have nearly 100% adantage over you the moment the fight begins - even moreso than a Jedi in most cases, as there's at least SOME sense of mystery and surprise there. C'mon. If you make yourself ALLOWED to be bountied, you're a damned good PvPer who's going to make short work of much that's going to come your way anyway, and is going to EXPECT you and HOPE for you toshow up. In fact, being a BH meat-target could become a new elite profession. Challenge is great, but you might as well justsay "hey, let's /duel for 20k!"
