Root shot is the only really great thing pistols has going for it. Yeah there is some other good stuff but nothing great. If you give it to too many other professions or if you nerf it then pistoleers will suck more. Pistoleers already have to deal with lesser range and damage.
BTW Im a MBH Mpistoleer and I use root shot alot. I actually do quite well. About 50/50 with full template jedi. I do have to tank jedi basically and with 4000cm I can do that....and with adk'd 8108 energy ubese sliced for 75% armor break resist sure helps. But am I as uber as a Rifleman BH? No....but I have this fatal weakness of picking professions that I want to be for some weird reason....
I use root to keep them from escaping most of the time. It also makes them rethink their attack method. Most jedi are not that adaptive to going from melee to ranged that quickly it usually takes them a few seconds, meaning while Im jumping all over them. Yeah I can't get out of their attack range really....but I feel I already went FotM enough with 4000cm which I see as a necessity for anyone that hunts jedi these days.

Hey, never understimate Eye Shot and Confusion Shot. They give definite penalties to their attack, and require a good chunk of action to perform the recovery. Popping a state on while they're KDed will force them to eat up their action quicker, so you can KD right when they're floating around the low mark and they'll have a very hard time getting up.
