Random citizen, gets scanned regularly, standard penalty if they get caught breaking the law.
Imperial officers, goes through average scans, gets his arse handed to him if he breaks the law.

That's exactly what I'm wanting:
---
An Imperial Lt. Colonel is walking through Theed, gets stopped by an armored hand on his shoulder. He turns around to see a Storm Trooper.
"Sorry, sir, didn't realize who you where." Storm Trooper stands at attention and salutes, as well as the rest of the unit.

*four days later*
The same Imperial Lt. Colonel is walking through Theed again and gets stopped.
"Sorry to detain you sir, regulations."
Storm Trooper initiates scan.
---

Rank in the same faction should provide a greater chance of avoiding the scan altogether, while increasing the penalty if caught with contraband.

Ternque:

Neutrals will get scanned from all parties, but never will get attacked for a failled scan. (unless they flee maybe, not sure on that one)

Just a little clarification.

But I do agree with you, it is a step in the good direction, yet another one.

Exactly!
I mentioned this somewhere in a post today (I've been posting up a storm.) but I think it'd be good if there were only so many higher ranking faction officers possible per geographic location. I.E. If you declare your residence on Naboo, there's only so many Colonels that can reasonably be "assigned" to that planet. In a certain radius of your declared residence, scan troops leave you alone. You're the local boss, they recognize you, they leave you alone. Outside of that area... you're liable to go through routine scans just like anyone else.
So, if you want to be a corrupt Imperial Colonel, you do it in your corrupt little precinct, but if you go elsewhere, you're not afforded the same freedom.
Imagine it like a police officer, say, LAPD. Other LAPD will be more likely to overlook if he's going 10mph over the speed limit, etc. but if he goes through airport security, he's still gotta be scanned, or present proper IDs to get through.

Yea Wolf. It could be harsher, but you guys are raising a very big stink over something very small and peddly.

Neutrals WILL get fined. They are subject to the law. No one has a way out of scans: no one. Even high ranking officers are BRUTALY scanned by the opposing faction.

While you are giving clarifications to me, have you considered that neutral players are attackable by neutral NPC's??? Perhaps you should be asking for clarification from the devs on that one, because, last I checked, neutral players do not enjoy the vitual wall that protects them from factioned NPC's.

Neutral NPC's will bite neutrals in the ass, and guess what? The devs' plan USES neutral police to do some/most of the scanning.

You guys and gals need to stop worrying about crap that doesn't matter. This change is going to give smugglers a REASON to exist...

Hey wait a sec....

Where did you got the feeling I was against thoses changes? I did asked about the whole neutral police thing and got no answer, but I am optimistic it will turn out to be good.

I actually agree that there is a lot of overeaction over something that get us Smugglers a few step closer to a real role.

If I offended you in any way, I'm sorry.

Ok,good. I was afraid maybe you took badly the "clarification" thing.

Do I have concerns? a few. But I am not one who hit the panic button easilly. lol And all thoses changes they told us about, I am sure they will be tested on TC a lot before going live. Too broad implications not to.

I'm so excited by all the news lately I barely have time to log in game. lol

Yea, I can be a sharp person Wolf. I appologise if you took injury from what I said, it was not intended.

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO excited by these changes. This is really the best thing to happen to me in a long, long time. It is because this stuff is very important to me personally, and I care about it.

(Does this make me a nerd? Damn straight it does.)

Simple way to put it:

The Occupation change is awesome, it just needs tweaking to lower the scan evasion of high ranking officers and for Smugglers to be put to use.

That's it. Nothing more, nothing less.

In all honesty Nick, high ranked Rebels really get reemed by imperial scan teams. My friend has taken statistics about how often he gets scanned going through Kaadara, Naboo.

For his Rebel colonel, he claims getting scanned 45/100 times he goes through that town.

For his lower ranked (like rank 3 or something) Rebel, he claims 15/100 times he passes through that town.

I think it is very fair for an officer to get cut slack on their own turf if s/he is going to be hit HARD in enemy territory.

This is just a damn cool feature, and I think it is a good design feature. When you are a colonel, you get indentified as a Rebel so fast the scan might not even happen first. That is significantly hard on them.
