In certian societies (that have flourished for well over 3000 years) the behavior is dictated by a set of ideals that include embracing each others differences.
Are we subscribing to any of those ideals?

those "societies" as you call them aren't nearly as succesful as those in which the strongest, and most innovative triumph.
